However, a makeup sponge can behave differently depending on how it is used. To get a more even result, it can help to dampen the sponge and squeeze it out so that it is moist (not wet), apply the base in thin layers, and work with light "bouncing" motions instead of applying a lot of product directly onto the sponge. Regular cleaning can also help the sponge perform better over time.
