Quitting smoking:
Select the gum strength based on your nicotine dependence. If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or have previously struggled with Nicorette 2 mg, you should opt for 4 mg. Otherwise, stick with 2 mg.

At the start of your treatment, you can take 1 gum every 1 to 2 hours. In most cases, 8-12 gums per day is sufficient. No more than 24 gums should be used in a day.

The treatment duration is individual. Typically, the treatment should last at least 3 months. After that, gradually reduce your nicotine dose. You should aim to stop when your dose has decreased to 1-2 gums per day.

Reducing smoking:
Nicorette gums are used between smoking sessions to extend smoke-free intervals and to minimize smoking as much as possible. If you haven’t reduced the number of cigarettes you smoke per day after 6 weeks, seek professional help. Try to quit smoking as soon as you feel ready, but no later than 6 months after starting treatment. If you can’t make a serious attempt to quit within 9 months of starting treatment, seek professional help (e.g., the Quit Smoking Line at 020-84 00 00).

Regular use of Nicorette gums for longer than 1 year is generally not recommended.
In some cases, a longer treatment period may be necessary to avoid relapse into smoking.
