Nicotinell Licorice is a nicotine gum designed to help you quit smoking or cut back on your habit, easing five withdrawal symptoms: cravings, frustration, irritation, anxiety, and restlessness.
Choose the right strength of Nicotinell based on your needs, follow the recommended treatment duration, and gradually reduce your intake. Sugar-free.
Can be combined with Nicotinell patch (only Nicotinell 2 mg gum in the flavors Fruit, Mint, and Licorice).
Nicotinell's range includes patches, medicinal gum, and lozenges. Nicotinell is a medication for smoking cessation and reduction, containing the active ingredient nicotine. Be sure to read the package leaflet carefully.
Generally, the following applies:
At the start of treatment, you can chew 1 gum every 1 to 2 hours. In most cases, 8-12 gums per day is sufficient, regardless of strength. The maximum daily dose for 2 mg gums is 25 gums, and for 4 mg gums, it's 15 gums.
Smoking cessation:
The treatment duration is individual. Typically, treatment should last at least 3 months. After that, the nicotine dose should be gradually reduced. Treatment should be concluded when the dose has decreased to 1-2 gums per day.
Regular use of Nicotinell gum for longer than 1 year is generally not recommended. In some cases, a longer treatment period may be necessary to avoid relapse into smoking.
Smoking reduction:
Nicotinell gum is used between smoking periods to extend smoke-free intervals and aims to reduce smoking as much as possible. If a reduction in the number of cigarettes per day is not achieved after 6 weeks, professional help should be sought. Attempts to quit smoking should be made as soon as the smoker feels ready, but no later than 6 months after starting treatment. If it is not possible to make a serious attempt to quit smoking within 9 months of starting treatment, professional help should be sought (e.g., "Quit Smoking Line" tel no 020-84 00 00).
It’s important to chew the gum correctly to avoid discomfort (e.g., hiccups and heartburn).
1. Chew 1 gum until a strong flavor is detected.
2. Then let the gum rest between your cheek and gum.
3. Start chewing again when the flavor fades.
4. Repeat this process for 30 minutes.
The nicotine effect kicks in after a few minutes. The gum should not be swallowed, but if it happens accidentally, the risk of poisoning is low since nicotine is released slowly and incompletely.
