By Terry was created by the world-famous makeup artist Terry de Gunzburg. After starting her career in 1975 by attending a course with Maria and Rosy Carita, two real beauty gurus behind the famous Carita salon on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, a successful career as a makeup artist followed. She has also had a job as Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent Beauté and is the brains behind the brand's most famous invention, Touche Éclat. After more than 20 years of work in the beauty industry, Terry de Gunzburg used her knowledge and talent to create By Terry in 1998. The brand has since become one of the most popular and best-selling in selective beauty.
