Not good
When I washed my hair with this shampoo and conditioner for the first time, my hair had the same smell as like new stinky jeans from warehouse 157/chemical crap-like smell 🤢 I washed my hair several times after, but the smell lingered. I eventually had to wash with apple cider vinegar to get rid of it. I then tried again because the smell wasn't the same on my daughter and thought that the product might have reacted to like my dry shampoo or something I had the first time. It got better the other times but I still don't experience a nice smell exactly. My hair has become very dry and gets greasy quickly after I shower. My daughter's scalp has also become drier from this. I have long thick hair. And just as you say, products you have beforehand can affect the scent of shampoo and conditioner. It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with the product itself, maybe you can give it to someone or let your daughter use it up. One tip is to try using a clarifying shampoo beforehand, if you have a lot of styling residue in your hair.
