I think it prepared well for both and I think it has held a little better. It is easy to use, but you need to be a little gentle when filing so that the sharp edges of the nail don't go to the side, because then it rubs off a bit. This type of file is primarily designed to buff, smooth, and polish the nail surface in several steps; it's not quite like a traditional coarse nail file. There are a few others to check out if you want one that's a bit coarser. Hope you find what you're looking for if you don't have another one already that you like better ✨
