Very good oil, but contains Cyclopentasiloxane

Got this hair oil from a friend who bought it here at Lyko. It's unfortunate that it contains cyclopentasiloxane; European authorities have assessed that the substance is persistent, can accumulate in living organisms, and is toxic to aquatic life. Additionally, the substance has been classified in the EU as reproductive toxic. Therefore, I will not continue using the oil.

    Contains Cyclomethicone

Decent oil, but strange that Maria Nila chooses to use Cyclomethicone in their products. I think of Maria Nila as a Swedish, sustainable brand. Cyclomethicone is hard to break down in nature and some are regulated within the EU. Since there are many good alternatives without these silicones, I will choose those instead.

    Contains Cyclotetrasiloxane

I was so disappointed when I saw that the product contains the ingredient Cyclotetrasiloxane. European authorities have assessed that the substance is persistent, can accumulate in living organisms, and is toxic to aquatic life. Additionally, the substance has been classified in the EU as reproductive toxic... No thanks.

Hi Karolin! 👋 Great that you read the ingredient list so carefully and consider the environment! What I see in the ingredient list when I search is the substance Cyclopentasiloxane (D5), not Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4). The difference matters because the classification as reproductive toxicant applies specifically to D4, which is banned in cosmetics within the EU. But you are absolutely right about something, cyclic siloxanes as a group are hard to break down, and the EU is also phasing out D5 step by step. This is a development we follow closely and take seriously in our assortment work. Thank you for helping us keep track, things like this really make a difference 💌
