What is Cyber Monday?
One thing is sure: Fall is a season for shopping! Several major sale festivities take place during the month before Christmas. You’ve probably heard of Singles’ Day – a celebration of you being you – but the main shopping holiday is of course Black Friday. Initially, only physical stores did Black Friday sales but eventually online retailers wanted to join the fun. And that’s how Cyber Monday was born. Only accessible through the web, Cyber Monday is a deal fest like no other. The concept was launched in 2005 and has been skyrocketing since. Today, Cyber Monday is an integral part of every online retailer's marketing calendar. Woho! Cyber Monday (along with Black Friday) is often seen as the kickoff to the annual Christmas shopping – but what you’re grabbing on one of the biggest sale happenings of the year is up to you!
When is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday always takes place three days after Black Friday. This means that Cyber Monday 2024 takes place on December 2. On this day, Lyko serves a buffet of Cyber Monday deals and discounts. Surely you have a favorite brand that you just LOVE – but it’s way too expensive. Well, not on Cyber Monday. Your faves are ready to be grabbed at a reduced price!
Why is it called Cyber Monday?
The term was first coined in 2005, but by then the sale festivities had already been going on for years. Only the term Cyber Monday was new. In Sweden, Cyber Monday was introduced around the same time as Black Friday, which was around 2013. Here, the two sale days are closely linked and can sometimes be perceived as one long sale. It's like a whole week of party prices, deals and offers. Sounds great to us! In other parts of the world, there is a clearer divide between the two shopping events, where Black Friday primarily takes place in physical stores, while Cyber Monday takes place in “cyberspace”, i.e. online.
