Year after year, I’ve had the chance to test new releases and form a great opinion about them. Last year, in Flaconi’s calendar, I found the Powder Love version, which turned out to be gorgeous and very floral 🌸. This year, Flaconi served me the Ex Vetiver version – a definitely stronger and more expressive scent 🌿, but still wonderful in its own way. However, it was this year’s calendar from Lyko that brought me the biggest surprise in the form of a miniature of the cult “Not A Perfume” in a 10 ml size. This small bottle completely stole my heart and enchanted me so much that I immediately decided to buy the full-size 50 ml bottle 😍. An additional nice touch is the sticker on the box of the large bottle celebrating the 15th anniversary of this cult scent, making this edition even more special. Visually, the whole series looks incredibly minimalist, elegant, and luxurious. The product is packed in a box, and inside we find a black, elegant case with embossed decorations and the brand name, where the bottles are safely secured. The white packaging and bottles make an amazing impression on the vanity next to other cosmetics. The large bottle impresses with details – the matte bottle has beautiful, subtle embossing in the background, and elegant, logo-embossed brand names can also be found on the top of the cap and the bottom of the bottle, adding exceptional class. The scent “Not A Perfume” is something incredible to me, mainly because these are unique molecular perfumes. Their formula is based on a single synthetic ingredient called Cetalox. Because it’s a molecular composition, the perfume can smell completely different on each person, blending with the natural scent of our skin. On me, it releases a beautiful, warm, and enveloping sweetness, very reminiscent of vanilla. The scent is sensual, clean, incredibly pleasant, and so captivating that it immediately lifts the mood. Unfortunately, this molecular magic also has its darker side, and initially, when I opened the large bottle, I thought it was a textbook “scent bait.” I noticed that the 10 ml miniature smelled intense, spacious, and very long-lasting on me, while the large 50 ml bottle after spraying seemed almost imperceptible – like pure water 🥹. As it turned out, this is not a trick but an example of so-called selective anosmia, i.e., smell blindness. The large cloud from the atomizer can instantly “block” our receptors, so we ourselves feel the scent very briefly on our skin, and it becomes a barely noticeable, close-to-skin memory. Meanwhile, the smaller dose from the miniature allows our nose to slowly get used to the scent without a sudden shock. Interestingly, the surroundings still detect a beautiful trail behind us, even when we ourselves think the scent has already faded.
