🥵🦾I know the struggle, so here are my best tips! 💦 Ways to refresh hair after a workout: 1. 🧴 Co-wash/cleansing conditioner Perfect if you have curly hair and want to avoid over-washing with shampoo several days a week. Massage into the scalp (just like with shampoo) and scrunch through the lengths. Rinse + finish with regular conditioner in the lengths if needed (varies by brand). Style your hair as usual afterwards. 💨 Dry shampoo Spray into the scalp where it’s sweaty or oily. Massage in or blow-dry with cool air. 🕒 Quick option when you don’t have time to shower but the scalp looks shiny. You can easily refresh the lengths with a little water + a refresh spray/conditioner spray! Find good hair ties! Preferably gentle ones in silk, my favorites are from ByBarb. Waking those curls to life day 2-3 💕 without washing. (Don't miss my best budget tip at the end) 💦WATER is your best friend! - But we don't want to soak the whole hair in the shower several times a week, so the spray bottle or wetting your hands in the sink and smoothing over the hair works just fine! 🩷 Then we might need to add a bit of product. A little curl cream, a little gel, or just a little leave-in - OR a tiny pea of everything 😁 There’s no right or wrong here, learn to know YOUR hair! Cream gives definition, gel gives hold. What’s needed (if anything). Smoothing the palms down over the hair to reduce frizz ⚡️ 👉🏻 MY BEST HACK: make your own refresh spray! 1st test with Umberto Giannini's products
I have tested some budget brands to enhance my curls/waves, but the ones I tried haven't really lived up to expectations. Now I ordered the mousse and gel from Umberto Giannini, and the price is definitely appealing. I read that Cantus leave-in conditioner is supposed to be quite heavy, so I used it as a mix of conditioner and leave-in, meaning I didn't rinse everything out, so product was still left in my hair when I scrunched in the mousse and then the gel. I also sprayed in heat protection since it doesn't seem to be in any of the other products. Then I went over my hair with the diffuser and let the last part dry on its own. The fact is that the pictures are actually from day TVÅ. So I have slept with my hair in a loose bun on top of my head, and the only thing I did today was scrunch out the “crunchet” from the gel with a bit of hair oil (don't be afraid that the curls will be stiff from the gel, you just have to scrunch it out later. Crunchet is your friend if you, like me, don't have such strong curls 🙌🏼💕) I am impressed! I might just be having a really good hair day, but it could also be that there's a reason you hear about the products! It looks promising, and I will return with a review when I have tested it more times! Reactivate Curls in 1 Min
Do you want to bring your curls back to life on day 2, 3 (or why not 5?) without piling on layer after layer of products that cause build-up? Then this is my go-to method! 🌙 At night: I sleep with my hair in a loose, high ponytail with a soft silk scrunchie. Sometimes I also wrap my hair in a silk scarf or sleep on a silk pillowcase – it reduces friction and helps the curls hold their shape better. 💧 In the morning: I release the ponytail, gently shake out my hair, and spray a moisturizing leave-in spray all over. Then I let it air dry. Simple, quick, and gentle. 💡 Want to style a little extra? Then you can mix a small amount of curl cream or gel with water in your hands and smooth/scrunch it into your hair. It gives a bit more hold – but without weighing it down or building up too much product. 💦 Sometimes water is enough! If you styled with a good amount of product after washing, it might be enough to just spray with water. Many styling products (like gel and cream) reactivate with moisture – it’s all about how much product is left in the hair. Tagging my favorite spray bottle for water. 🌬️ Air drying works best when it’s warm. I often air dry in the summer because it’s nice and convenient. In the winter, I usually skip it – freezing temperatures and wet hair are a bad combo. How to dry your hair for completely frizz-free curls
Just kidding – frizz-free curls are not a reasonable goal. Those perfect, shiny curls you sometimes see? Often, the hair is first straightened or blow-dried straight and then styled with a curling iron. That’s a different look – on different hair. When we style our naturally curly hair, we work with our natural texture. And there will always be a little frizz – more or less. Both results are beautiful! Don’t try to mimic how someone with straight hair tries to create curls. It won’t look the same – and we don’t want it to either. Work with your texture, not against it 💛 ⏳ 🚿 After a proper wash with shampoo and conditioner, I applied a curl cream to very wet hair directly in the shower. Then I let my hair rest in a microfiber towel for a while before applying a gel with strong hold. 👉 Many become hesitant when the gel dries stiff – but that’s exactly what we want! The stiffness encapsulates the curl pattern while the hair dries. When the hair is completely dry, you scrunch out the stiffness – and you’re left with defined curls with minimal frizz and nice hold. ⏳ My best tips when drying with a diffuser: 💨 Don’t touch the curls at first! Let the dryer circulate around the hair – we want the curls to set in their natural shape. 🔁 Tilt your head forward and backward, up and down, to create volume and get air at the roots. 🌀 When the gel starts to set, gently lift certain sections to better reach the scalp – without disturbing the curl pattern. ✋ When the hair is clearly stiff, start scrunching with your hands while drying. This releases the hard outer layer and builds volume at the same time. 🌬️ Dry completely dry – not 80 or 90%. It makes a big difference for both shape and durability. 💧 Finish with a light hair oil on the ends and lengths for shine and protection. ⏳ 👉 Tip!
